Description

SICILY. Syracuse. Hieron II, 275-215 BC. Hemistater or Dekadrachm (Gold, 17 mm, 4.24 g, 2 h), circa 217-215. Head of Persephone to left, wearing grain ear wreath and pendant earring; behind neck, crescent. Rev. ΙΕΡΩΝΟΣ Charioteer driving biga galloping to left; above, monogram. Bucetti 1134 ( same dies ). Carroccio 82 (D39/R61). Jameson 877 ( same dies ). Very rare. A lovely example, nicely struck and most attractively toned. Minor marks, otherwise, extremely fine.
