Description

LUCANIA. Thurium. Circa 410-400 BC. Distater (Silver, 23 mm, 15.69 g, 9 h). Head of Athena to right wearing Attic helmet, adorned, on the helmet bowl above the visor, with Skylla coiled to right, raising her left hand. Rev. ΘΟΥΡΙΩΝ Bull butting to right on exergual line bordered with dots; in exergue, fish to right. HN III.1807. Noe H 6 ( same dies ). SNG ANS 972 ( same dies ). SNG Lockett 492 ( same dies ). Boldly attractive and lightly toned. Struck on a slightly tight flan, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.

From a European collection, acquired in the 1990s.
