Description

CALABRIA. Tarentum. Circa 240-228 BC. Drachm (Silver, 16 mm, 3.27 g, 3 h). Head of Athena to left, wearing crested Attic helmet with Skylla on the bowl, pendant earring and pearl necklace; behind neck, monogram of ΑΡ. Rev. ΤΑΡΑΝΤΙ Owl, with closed wings and head facing front, standing to right on olive branch; in field to right, monogram of ΜΙ. SNG ANS 1326 and Vlasto 1102 ( same dies ). Rare. An elegant coin with an attractive grey toning. Minor flan fault over the eye, otherwise, good extremely fine.

From a Swiss collection formed prior to 2005.
