Holy Roman Empire. Leopold I. 1657-1705. Medal (Silver, 39mm, 22.87 g 12), on the imperial victories over the Turks in 1686, by L. G. Laufer and G. Hautsch, Nuremberg, 1686. LEOPOLDUS. I.TURC.VICTOR Two putti, flying over a panorama of the city of Vienna, holding a roundel with a portrait of Leopold I to right; at the bottom, initials LGL. Rev. VERMEHRER DES REICHES. 1686 Ten labeled roundels with views of the cities and fortresses captured in 1686. From the top, surmounted by a crown, Ofen, Pest, Hatwam, Segedin, Fünfkirchen, Simontorna, Kaposwar, Colosza, Sirlos and Esseckerbrucken; at the bottom, initials G.H. Julius 309. Montenuovo 1027. A lovely, toned example. Rare in this condition. Good extremely fine. L. G. Lauf(f)er was a manufacturer and contractor at Nuremberg (c. 1660-1700) and G. Hautsch was one of the major engravers who worked for his company (c. 1683-1712).
