PROTEGIT.DEVS (= they attack in vain those God protects ) Shield, held by hand of God emerging from clouds, protecting kneeling people and Dutch troops from the Spanish army. Rev. (rose)VIGILATE.ET ORATE.DEO. CONFIDENTES.CIƒ.Iƒ.XCVI (= be watchful and pray, putting confidence in God, 1596 ) Hebrew name of Jehovah in clouds and rays; below, the Dutch Maid, kneeling in prayer within an enclosure; to left, soldier standing guard; to right, tower with soldier holding a sword.
