European Medals from 1513 to 1788
The Low Countries, Bruxelles. Philip II, 1556-1598. Medal (Silver, 35mm, 34.08 g 12), with his wife, Queen Mary of England (1553-1554-1558), by Jacques Jonghelinck after Jacopo da Trezzo, c. 1555-1558. .PHILIP.D.G. HISP.REX.Z. Bare-headed bust of Philip II to right, wearing high collar, order of the Golden Fleece and cuirass. Rev. MARIA I REG.ANGL.FRA-NC.ET.HIB.Z. Bust of Mary to left, wearing elaborate cap, with a jeweled diadem and a veil hanging down behind, and a high-collared jeweled gown. Attwood p. 89 and fig. 26. Smolderen p. 421, F8. Very rare.
