Description

SICILY. Syracuse. Dionysios II, 367-357 BC. (Bronze, 22 mm, 11.07 g, 1 h), 'Kainon' issue, circa 360-340. Griffin springing to left. Rev. KAINON Horse galloping to left, with trailing rein. Campana 1. CNS I, p. 249, 1. HGC 2, 509 (all as Kainon). SNG ANS 1169-74 (as Alaisa). Dark brown patina. Somewhat rough surfaces, otherwise, very fine.

From the collection of a numismatist.

It is quite unusual for this type that the reverse legend is so well-struck and fully on the flan.
