Description

ISLANDS OFF ATTICA, Aegina. Circa 480-457 BC. Stater (Silver, 21 mm, 12.23 g). Sea turtle, head in profile, seen from above, with a T-shaped design of a line of six very large pellets down the back of its shell and with two equal-sized ones flanking the top to form a "collar". Rev. Incuse square with heavy skew design. HGC 6, 448. Meadows, Aegina, Group IIIa. Milbank Period II. Traité II, 1, 1936 and pl. XXX, 17. Attractive iridescent toning. Banker's mark and a few light scratches on obverse, otherwise, very fine.
