ROMAN AND BYZANTINE COINS Gordian III, as Caesar, 238. Sestertius (Bronze, 29mm, 23.40g 2), Rome, April-July 238. M ANT GORDIANVS CAES Bare-headed and draped bust of Gordian Caesar to right. Rev. PIETAS AVGG / S C Augur’s wand, sacrificial knife, patera, sacrificial jug, simpulum and sprinkler. Banti 59. BMC 64. Cohen 183. RIC 3. A well struck and well centered example with a very elegant portrait and an attractive brown and green patina. Some very minor flat­ness, otherwise , about extremely fine.
