Description

GREEK COINS Baktria Greco-Baktrian Kingdom. Eukratides I, c. 170-145 BC. Stater (Gold, 20mm, 8.52g 12), c. later 160s. Diademed and draped bust of Eukratides to right, wearing Macedonian helmet adorned with bull’s horn and ear. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΜΕΓΑΛΟΥ / ΕΥΚΡΑΤΙΔΟΥ The Dioskouri galloping to right, each holding spear and palm branch; below right, monogram. Bopearachchi Series 5 ( mono­gram unlisted ). Mitchiner 176 ( monogram unlisted ). Cf. SNG ANS 463. Triton I, 1997, 618 ( same dies ). Extremely rare, a lightly toned and splendid example. Good ex­tremely fine.
