Description

GREEK COINS Alexander’s Empire in the East Satraps of Babylonia. Babylon . period of Stamenes through Seleukos, c. 328-311. Double Daric (Gold, 17mm, 16.61g). Persian king in running-kneeling position to right, wearing kidaris and kandys and with a quiver over his shoulder, holding spear in his right hand and bow in his left; to left, satrapal bon­net. Rev. Large ‘wave’ pattern incuse punch. Friedberg 462 ( this coin illustrated ). Nicolet-Pierre 12. Sunrise 159 ( this coin ). Very rare. Boldly and clearly struck. Some flat striking and a few very minor marks, otherwise , good very fine. From the Sunrise Collection, ex Numismatic Fine Arts XXII, 1 June 1989, 342 and Numismatic Fine Arts XX, 9 March 1988, 753.
