Description

GREEK COINS Ionia Phokaia, c. 360s BC. Hekte (Electrum, 11mm, 2.55g). Head of youthful Satyr to left, with an animal ear and wearing an ivy wreath with berries over his forehead. Rev. Quadripartite incuse square. Bodenstedt 87.10 ( this coin ). Jameson 1511 ( same dies ). SNG Berry 1081 ( same dies ). A lovely toned example with a strikingly fine head of a satyr. Nearly extremely fine. From the collection of J. & S. Velkov, Vinchon, 24 November 1994, 115, and from the collection of C. Gillet, ‘Kunstfreund’, Bank Leu & Münzen und Medaillen, 28 May 1974, 221.
