Description

MEROVINGIANS, Moselle. Metz. Circa 620-640. Triens (Gold, 14.5 mm, 1.21 g, 12 h), Ansoaldus, moneyer. METT[.] CIVETATI Diademed and draped bust to right. Rev. +ANSOALΔVS MONEI Cross; in the upper quarters, C-V; all within laurel wreath, surrounded by legend; jeweller's mark between the cross and the beginning of the legend. Belfort 2932. Depeyrot II, p. 110, 10. Stahl (1982) p. 146, A6k.i ( this coin ). Some very minor flan cracks caused by the jeweller's mark (applied pre-1912), otherwise, extremely fine.

From the Childeric Collection of Merovingian Coinage, acquired in 2010, and ex Schulman [109] 9 April 1912, 1428.
