Description

BRUTTIUM. Kaulonia. Circa 500-480 BC. Diobol (Silver, 10 mm, 0.85 g). ΚΑV-ΛΟ arranged in a rough circle on a raised disc with a rayed border - a hoplite shield?. Rev. Triskeles of three human moving to right; at the center, dot within annulet. CNG 112, 2019, 58 ( same dies ). HN III 2042. Noe, Caulonia, 207. Very rare. Toned. Very fine.

From the Dr. Paul Peter Urone Collection, ex Kovacs MBS XV, 1 October 2003, 18.

Both the obverse, which seems most likely to be the side with the inscription, and the reverse are almost certainly shield devices.
