ILLYRIA. Dyrrhachion. Circa 275-270 BC. Trihemiobol (Silver, 8 mm, 0.43 g, 6 h). Head of youthful Herakles to right, wearing a lion's skin headdress. Rev. [ΔΥΡ] Pegasos with curved wing flying to right. HGC 3, 1, 39, otherwise apparently unpublished. Nomos 26, 2023, 291. Very rare. Clear, well-struck and toned. Minor marks, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
From the "Collection sans Pareille" of Ancient Greek Fractions, from the collection of L. Mildenberg, acquired from H. S. von Aulock as "uncertain Cilicia"(!).
It is quite amazing to think that there were two examples of this coin in the present collection, both acquired from L. Mildenberg's own collection. The first, acquired in Geneva in 1976 (Nomos 26, 291), was classified as being possibly from Lampsakos; the present piece came from von Aulock and was thought to be possibly from Cilicia!! In any case, it is an attractive little coin!
