Description

LUCANIA. Poseidonia. Circa 445-420 BC. Diobol (Silver, 12 mm, 1.18 g, 1 h). POM ( retrograde ) Poseidon advancing to right, wielding a trident held in his upraised right hand, and with his chlamys over his shoulders; in the field to left, olive leaf with berry. Rev. POM ( retrograde ) Bull standing to left; in exergue, barley grain. HN III 1119 var. ( bull to right ). SNG ANS 696 ( reverse die ), 700 ( obverse die ). Beautiful light toning, well-centered and bold. Scratch on the reverse, otherwise, about extremely fine.
