The Dutch Republic. 1594. Medal (Silver, 51mm, 45.90 g 12), on Prince Maurice’s rescue of Coevorden from a Spanish siege, and on the capture of Groningen; unsigned but by G. van Bylaer. (rosette)xNEXOSxFAVOREx NVMINISxQVISxDISSOLVES; (= who would disunite those who God put together? ) Sheaf of arrows surrounded by shields bearing the arms of Gelderland, Holland, Zeeland, Utrecht, Friesland and Overijssel. Rev. Descriptive inscrip­tion in 12 lines. Van Loon I, pp. 440-441. A superb, attractive and very well-struck piece with fine, old toning. Extremely fine. From a collection in America. The obverse die of this medal was used to strike the reverse of the following lot.
