Alexander III ‘the Great’, 336-323 BC. Drachm (Silver, 16mm, 4.11 g 1), uncertain mint in Asia Minor, c. 323-280. Head of Herakles in lion skin headdress to right. Rev. ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ Zeus seated left on backless throne, holding eagle in his right hand and long scepter in his left; to left, lion’s head facing; below throne, wheat grain. Price 2701 ( with the wheat grain described as being in the field, in error ). A clear, attractively toned piece. Extremely fine. From a European collection, formed before 2005.
