Alexander III ‘the Great’, 336-323 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 27mm, 17.15 g 12), Byblos (or Arados?), c. 330-320 (or c. 320-315 ?). Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress. Rev. ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ Zeus seated left on backless throne, holding long scepter with his left hand and eagle in his right; to left, monogram of ΑΡ. Price 3426. SNG Munich 745. SNG Oxford 3009. An attractive, lightly toned piece struck in high relief. Extremely fine. Ex Münzen und Medaillen GmbH 35, 17 November 2011, 36. This issue was attributed to Byblos by Price; others have seen it as an issue struck in Alexander’s name by Ptolemy I as satrap, but in Arados.
