Selinos. Circa 455-440 BC. Didrachm (Silver, 22mm, 8.50 g 11). Σ-E-ΛI-N-ONT-IO-Σ Herakles striding right, holding club overhead in his right hand, preparing to strike the Cretan Bull, leaping right, which he holds by the horn with his left hand. Rev. HYΨ-AΣ The river god Hypsas standing left, holding olive branch in his left hand and, in his right, phiale, from which he pours a libartion over a serpent-entwined altar to left; to right, heron walking right with selinon leaf above. SNG ANS 704 and SNG Oxford 1899 ( from the same dies ). Obverse struck from a slightly worn die as usual, otherwise , nearly extremely fine.
