Tarentum. Circa 240-228 BC. Nomos (Silver, 19mm, 6.39 g 10), Xenokrates. ΞΕ-ΝΟΚΡΑ/Τ-ΗΣ Armored cavalryman, riding horse moving to left, raising his right hand in salute and turning his bearded head to face the viewer; in upper field to right, monogram and pileus. Rev. ΤΑΡΑΣ Phalantyhos, nude, riding dolphin to left, his body turned slightly turned back to right, holding a trident over his right shoulder in his right hand, and holding his drapery in his upraised left; to right, monogram of ΣΩ; below, waves and cuttlefish. HN III 1058. SNG ANS 1258 ( same dies ). Vlasto 957. Nicely toned and most attractive. Extremely fine. From a Swiss collection, formed in the 1980s and 1990s.
