Description

ISLANDS OFF THRACE, Thasos. 2nd century BC. (Bronze, 16 mm, 3.46 g, 1 h). Head of bearded Herakles to right, wearing lion's skin headdress. Rev. ΘAΣIΩN with bow, containing a Thasian wine amphora, above and, below, club over monogram of HPAKΛE. Le Rider, Thasiennes 56-57 var. (monogram). SNG Copenhagen 1054. Very well struck, of good style, and with a fine dark green patina - an unusually attractive piece. Nearly extremely fine.

From the Vineyard Collection, bought privately late in 1999.
