Description

BRUTTIUM. Rhegion. Circa 435-425 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 27 mm, 17.29 g, 10 h). Lion’s mask facing; to left, olive sprig; to right, hare running upwards. Rev. RECIN-OS (retrograde) Iokastos, bearded and draped from the waist, seated left on backless stool, holding long scepter in his left hand and kantharos in his right; behind stool, raven standing right; all within olive wreath. Gillet 313 (this coin). Herzfelder 56 (D32/R46). HN III 2488. SNG Lloyd 681 (same dies). Toned and well-centered on a broad flan. Very fine.
