Description

PTOLEMAIC KINGS OF EGYPT. Cleopatra VII Thea Neotera & Ptolemy XV Caesarion, 44-30 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 25 mm, 13.61 g, 12 h), Alexandria, year 1 of Caesarion, 37-36 BC. Diademed head of Ptolemy I right, wearing aegis around neck. Rev. BAΣIΛEΩΣ ΠTOΛEMAIOY Eagle standing left on thunderbolt; star, LA and Isis headdress to left; to right ΠΑ. SNG Copenhagen 412. Svoronos 1816. Good fine.

Caesarion, the son of Cleopatra VII and Julius Caesar (being the only actual son of Caesar as Octavian was adopted) ruled jointly with his mother from 37 BC until his mother's suicide on 12 August 30 BC. He was the rightful ruler and the last Pharaoh of Egypt from that day until his death under the orders of Octavian 11 days later. It is said that Octavian heard his advisors that "two Caesars are way too much" and he put to death his "brother" on 23rd of August 30 BC. He was 17 years old.
