Description

CILICIA. Tarsos . After 164 BC. (Bronze, 21.5 mm, 7.05 g, 11 h). Turreted and veiled head of the Tyche of Tarsos to right; countermarked with the head Helios within a circular indent. Rev. TΑΡΣΕΩΝ [Sandan standing right on horned, winged animal] within a pyramidal monument surmounted by an eagle; to left AP AP ΔI Θ monograms. SNG France 1331-1332. SNG Levante 952. Particularly fine and appealing details for a countermarked issue. Good very fine.
