Description

CILICIA. Tarsos . Tarkumuwa (Datames), satrap of Cilicia and Cappadocia, 384-361/0 BC. Stater (Silver, 22 mm, 10.29 g, 10 h), struck circa 370 BC. B'LTRZ Baal protector of Tarsos seated to right on throne, holding bunch of grapes and grain ear in his left hand and scepter in his right; in field to right, thymiaterion; under throne, sphinx seated to right. Rev. TRDMW Tarkumuwa seated to right, in full Persian garb, measuring arrow held in his left hand; on the lower right, bow; in field in upper right, winged solar disk. SNG France 283. SNG Levante -. SNG von Aulock -. Nicely toned, and with an admirably well struck reverse. Obverse off centre , otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
