Description

KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III ‘the Great’, 336-323 BC. Dekadrachm (Silver, 33 mm, 39.70 g, 1 h), Babylon, circa 325-323. Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion's skin headdress. Rev. ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ Zeus seated left on high-backed throne, holding long scepter in his left hand and, in his right, eagle standing right; below throne, monogram over M. HGC 909. Price 3598. Price, Mnemata, 7. Prospero 307 ( same obverse die ). Extremely rare. Porous and corroded surfaces as usual , otherwise, very fine.
