Description

Sicily. Leontinoi. Circa 415-413 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 26 mm, 17.28 g, 6 h). Laureate head of Apollo to right. Rev. ΛEONTIN[ON] Head of a lion with open jaws to right; around, four barley grains. Boehringer, Münzgeschichte 67, Rizzo Pl. XXIV, 15, SNG ANS 248, SNG Lockett 804 (all struck from the same dies). Very rare. Nicely toned. A lovely coin of elegant and refined classical style.
