SYRIA, Cyrrhestica. Hieropolis. Severus Alexander, 222-235. (Bronze, 27 mm, 14.57 g, 12 h). AYT KAI MAP AVP CE AΛEΞANΔPOC CEB Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Severus Alexander to right. Rev. ΘEAC CYPIAC IEPOΠOΛITΩN Atergatis seated to left on a decorated throne with a back, resting her right hand on tympanon at her side; to either side of throne, lion advancing to left. Cf. BMC 55 = Butcher 59a ( Atergatis to right ). Cf. CNG E34, 2001, 63605 ( same dies ). SNG Hunterian 2694 ( same dies ), otherwise unpublished. Apparently the third example known, all of which are struck from the pair of same dies. Fine green patina, and generally pleasant for the issue. Very fine.
