Description

THESSALY. Pelinna . Circa 425-350 BC. Chalkous (Bronze, 15 mm, 3.05 g, 5 h). Helmeted horseman to right, raising spear to strike fallen warrior who is trying to protect himself with a shield. Rev. Warrior, wearing petasos and dressed in short tunic, advancing left and looking back, his right leg stepping on a higher level than his left, carrying shield with his left and spear with his right. BCD 530.1. A clear example with nice glossy dark brown patina; very rare. Struck slightly off centre , otherwise, good very fine.
