Justinian I, 527-565. Solidus (Gold, 21 mm, 4.41 g, 6 h), Rome, 1st officina, 537-542. D N IVSTINIANVS P P AVG Helmeted and cuirassed bust of Justinian facing, holding globus cruciger in his right hand and shield with his left. Rev. VICTORIA AVGGG A / CONOB Angel standing facing, holding long cross with right hand and globus cruciger in left; in field to right, star. DOC 318b. MIB 29. SB 289. Rare. Fine details for the type; well centered on a broad flan. With traces of mounting , otherwise, good very fine.
From the collection of W. F. Stoecklin, Amriswil, Switzerland, acquired from Hirsch in 1967.
