Description

Leo I, 457-474. Solidus (Gold, 20 mm, 4.42 g, 5 h), Constantinople, 5th officina, 462 or 466. D N LEO PERPET AVG Helmeted, diademed and cuirassed bust of Leo facing, his head turned slightly to right, holding a spear over his right shoulder and with a shield, ornamented with a horseman spearing a fallen foe, over his left. Rev. VICTORI-A AVGGG E / CONOB Victory standing left, holding long jeweled cross; in field to right, star. Depeyrot 93/1. RIC 605. Toned and attractive. Scratches and bangs , otherwise, nearly very fine.
