Description

Gallienus, 253-268. As (Copper, 22 mm, 7.72 g, 1 h), Rome, 256-257. IMP GALLIENVS P F AVG GERM Laureate and cuirassed bust of Gallienus to right. Rev. VICTORIA GERM / S C Victory standing front, head to left, holding wreath in her right hand and palm frond with her left; at her feet to left, bound German captive seated to left. Cohen 1168. MIR 117q. RIC 284. Very rare; with a remarkably fine portrait and a lovely turquoise-green patina. Flan crack at 4h , otherwise, good very fine.
From the collection of W. F. Stoecklin, Amriswil, Switzerland, acquired in the early 1950s from the estate of the late Dr. L. Naegeli of Zürich (died in 1951).
