Gordian I, 238. Sestertius (Orichalcum, 32 mm, 21.44 g, 11 h), Rome, 1-22 April 238. IMP CAES M ANT GORDIANVS AFR AVG Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Gordian I to right. Rev. PROVIDENTIA AVGG / S C Providentia standing facing, head to left, leaning on low column to right and holding a wand in her right hand and a cornucopiae with her left; to left, at her feet, globe. BMC 5. Cohen 6. RIC 9. Very rare; green brown surfaces. Some smoothing and with a flan split at 9h on the obverse, still filled with corrosion products at 9h , otherwise, good fine.
