Description

PHOENICIA. Berytus . Diadumenian Caesar, 217-218. Sestertius (Bronze, 29 mm, 21.00 g, 10 h), struck under Macrinus. M OP DIADVMENIANVS CAES Bare-headed, draped and cuirassed bust of Diadumenian to right. Rev. COL IVL AVG FEL BER Tetrastyle temple of Astarte; including figures in the temple, in the pediment, on the roof and on either side of the steps. BMC 169 this obverse die . With an impressive portrait, a busy reverse scene and an attractive brown patina. Good very fine.
From the collection of W. F. Stoecklin, Amriswil, Switzerland, acquired from Bank Leu in Zürich prior to 1975.
