Description

Caracalla, 198-217. Sestertius (Orichalcum, 30 mm, 22.74 g, 1 h), struck during his joint reign with Geta, Rome, 211. M AVREL ANTONINVS PIVS AVG BRIT Laureate bust of Caracalla to right. Rev. FORT RED P M TR P XIIII COS III P P / S C Fortuna seated left, holding rudder set on globe in her right hand and cornucopia in her left; under seat, wheel. Banti 16. BMC 29. RIC 479a. With a fine portrait and a lovely light green patina. Minor flan crack and some traces of corrosion , otherwise, about extremely fine.
From the collection of W. F. Stoecklin, Amriswil, Switzerland, acquired from Bank Leu in Zürich prior to 1975.
