Description

Trajan, 98-117. Sestertius (Orichalcum, 33 mm, 28.71 g, 5 h), Rome, 103-111. IMP CAES NERVAE TRAIANO AVG GER DAC P M TR P COS V P P Laureate head of Trajan to right, wearing aegis. Rev. S P Q R OPTIMO PRINCIPI / SC Roma seated left on cuirass, holding Victory and long sceptre. Cohen 391. Ric 489 var (as drapery on shoulder). Woytek 332c. Well struck and centered with an excellent golden-brown tiber patina. Extremely rare with this bust type. Slightly smoothed fields , otherwise, about extremely fine.
From the collection of W. F. Stoecklin, Amriswil, Switzerland, acquired from Bank Leu in Zürich prior to 1975.
