Description

Octavian, spring-early summer 36 BC. Denarius (Silver, 18 mm, 3.80 g, 6 h), mint moving with Octavian in central or southern Italy. IMP.CAESAR.DIVI.F[III.VIR.ITER.R.P.C.] Bare head of Octavian to right. Rev. COS.ITER.ET.TER.DESIG Temple of Divus Julius; on the architrave, DIVO.IVL; with the central intercolumniation, togate statue of Julius Caesar. Crawford 540/2. CRI 315. Sydenham 1338. Lightly toned. Several bankers' marks on the obverse , otherwise, about very fine.
From the collection of W. F. Stoecklin, Amriswil, Switzerland, acquired from Münzen und Medaillen AG in Basel prior to 1975.
