Description

KINGS OF MACEDON. Perseus, 179-168 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 30.5 mm, 15.38 g, 12 h), Pella or Amphipolis, circa 173-171. Diademed head of Perseus to right. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΠΕΡΣΕΩΣ Eagle with spread wings standing right on thunderbolt; above, monogram of NK; to right, monogram of ΑΥ; between legs, monogram of ΛΩ; all within an oak wreath with a plow below. HGC 3.1, 1094. Mamroth 20b; SNG Oxford 3277 ( same obverse die ). Lightly toned and well centered, and with an excellent portrait of Perseus. About extremely fine.
