AKRAC - ANTOΣ ( partially retrograde ) Eagle standing to left on an Ionic column capital with volutes to left and right. Rev. Crab, with open claws, seen from above. BMFA 223 ( this coin ). Westermark 423.2 ( this coin ). An outstanding example: a lovely, sharply struck coin, attractively toned, and with a pedigree going back to before 1903. Extremely fine.
From a European collection, ex Numismatic Fine Arts XVIII, 31 March 1987, 28 and XVI, 2 December 1985, 36, from the Collection of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts and that of Francis Bartlett, Numismatic Fine Arts VIII, 6 June 1980, 16 (BMFA inventory number 03.928 = acquired in 1903 through Francis Bartlett, as part of a small group of coins that came with a number of other acquisitions, including the great Warren Collection, of which the whole was, in fact, put together by E. P. Warren from the late 1890s until c. 1901) .
