Description

SICILY. Selinos . Circa 455-409 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 26 mm, 17.02 g, 12 h). ΣΕΛΙΝΟΝΤΙΟΣ (retrograde) Apollo and Artemis standing left in a quadriga moving slowly to left. Rev. The river-god Selinos, horned and nude, holding laurel branch in his left hand and a phiale in his right; to left, rooster standing before a garlanded altar; to right, selinon leaf over a bull standing left on a base. Schwabacher 10-12 var (Q3/S-. SNG ANS 690-692 ( same obverse die ). Toned. Die break on the obverse, as usual with exanokes if Schwabacher 10-11. Good very fine.
