Description

LUCANIA. Thourioi . Circa 350-300 BC. Distater (Silver, 23 mm, 15.99 g, 3 h). Head of Athena to right, wearing helmet adorned with Skylla. Rev. ΘΟΥΡΙΩΝ Bull butting to right; above, Ξ; in exergue, two fish. HN III 1811. Noe H 20. SNG ANS 973. With a noble and powerful head of Athena. Nicely toned. Struck on a narrow flan, otherwise . About extremely fine.
Ex Nomos 14, 17 May 2017, 39 (unsold) and from the Stoecklin Collection, bought W. M. Stoecklin for his father W.F. Stoecklin from Bank Leu in Zürich on 31 May 1970.
