ENGLAND. Uncertain, possibly London. 17th Century. Token (Silver, 53 mm, 11.82 g), holed for suspension; engraved and possibly a ticket for entry into a private society or secret group. EXISTIMATIONI TUAE CONSULE (= consult your expectations ) Two quill pens in saltire; at the start of the legend, floral ornament. Rev. Blank. An unusual and curious token, beautifully and artistically engraved. Attractively toned. Extremely rare. Virtually as made.
For another token that can be paired with this one, but with a key rather than two quill pens, see lot XXX. It should be pointed out that both pieces were individually engraved: for example, while all the letters in the legends on both tokens, are very similar, they are, in fact, all different in their detailing.
