Anastasius I, 491-518. Solidus (Gold, 21 mm, 4.50 g, 6 h), Constantinople, Γ = 3rd officina, 492-507. D N ANASTA-SIVS P P AVG Helmeted and cuirassed bust of Anastasius facing, holding spear with his right hand over his right shoulder and with a shield, embellished with horseman attacking a fallen foe, over his left. Rev. VICTORI-A AVGGG Γ / CONOB Victory standing to left, holding a long jeweled cross; in field to right, star. DOC (3c). MIBE 4a. SB 3. Bold and attractive. Two tiny scratches in the obverse field, otherwise, extremely fine.
