ATTICA. Athens. Circa 500/490-485/0 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 23 mm, 16.68 g, 7 h). Head of Athena to right, wearing close-fitted crested Attic helmet decorated with a small spiral on the bow, a dotted chevron crest support, a disc earring and with the hair over her forehead shown in tight curls. Rev. AΘE Owl standing right, head facing; in field to left, olive sprig with two leaves and a berry; all within incuse square. Asyut Group IVc. HGC 4, 1590. Seltman 246 ( Group Gii, very similar obverse, A162, but differing reverse die ). Svoronos pl. 4, 29 ff. An impressive piece with a very complete obverse. Athena's face lightly struck and with some corrosion, otherwise, good very fine.
