Description

KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III ‘the Great’, 336-323 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 26 mm, 17.08 g, 9 h), possibly struck under Seleukos I Nikator (but SC doubts that), uncertain mint in Asia Minor or the Levant, circa 310. BAΣIΛEΩΣ AΛEΞANΔPOY Zeus seated left on low throne, holding long scepter in his left hand and, in his right, eagle standing right with closed wings; to left, monogram of ΔΑ; below throne, but above strut, ΘΕ. HGC 10h. Price 3786. SC 295. A very rare issue; clear, attractive and toned. Some scratches and surface roughness but still the best known example of Price 3786, otherwise, good very fine.

From a European collection, and from the Molard Collection in Switzerland, Nomos 15, 22 October 2017, 175.

The best known example of a scarce issue
