Description

MACEDON. Neapolis. Circa 500-480 BC. Stater (Silver, 20 mm, 9.01 g). Gorgoneion with gnashing teeth and protruding tongue. Rev. Quadripartite incuse square. Dewing 1063. SNG ANS 403-4. Svoronos HPM pl. 9, 31. Darkly toned, well-centered and well-struck. Some roughness, otherwise, about extremely fine.

From the collection of a Nobleman who died in 1940, ex Ars Classica XVI, 3 July 1933, 954 (with its original collection ticket), previously in the stock of Jakob Hirsch.
