Description

LYDIA. Philadelphia. 2nd-1st century BC. (Bronze, 15 mm, 3.86 g, 11 h), struck under the archiereus Hermippos, son of Hermogenes. ΦΙΛΑΔΕΛΦΕΩΝ Ivy wreathed head of Dionysos to right. Rev. ΑΡΧΙΕΡΕΥΣ / ΕΡΜΙΠΠΟΣ Panther standing to left, head turned back to right, cradling filleted thyrsos. GRPC Lydia, 41-2. SNG Copenhagen 340. Attractive green patina with earthen highlights. Corrosion on back of head, otherwise, very fine.
