Description

BITHYNIA. Herakleia Pontika. Circa 305-281 BC. Didrachm (Silver, 22 mm, 9.86 g, 1 h). Head of youthful Herakles to right, wearing lion's skin headdress. Rev. ΗΡΑΚΛΕΩΤΑΝ Dionysos seated left on backless throne, holding a kantharos in his outstretched right hand and a thyrsos with his left. HGC 7, 456. RG 44. Cf. SNG BM Black Sea 1617-19 ( control ). SNG Stancomb 823. Attractive light toning; fine silver. Obverse struck from a slightly worn die, otherwise, good very fine.
