Description

PTOLEMAIC KINGS of EGYPT. Arsinoe II, wife of Ptolemy II, died 270 BC. Oktadrachm or Mnaieion (Gold, 27mm, 27.72 g 12), struck under Ptolemy II, Alexandria, c. 253/2. Diademed and veiled bust of Arsinoe II to right, with the tip of a lotos scepter at the top of her head; behind, Θ. Rev. ΑΡΣΙΝΟΗΣ ΦΙΛΑΔΕΛΦΟΥ Double cornucopiae filled with fruits and bound with fillet. Noeske 39. Olivier & Lorber 98-101. SNG Copenhagen 134. Svoronos 460. A superb piece. Good extremely fine.
